Gallery

This Gallery contains details of a number of projects, both mine, and those of students and colleagues who have built guitars with my guidance. The work of students helps to illustrate that with patience and a little confidence, even those with only a limited amount of woodworking experience can produce a quality instrument.

I've now built five guitars and worked on others. Here you can see them all in all their glory, together with some of their technical details. As it progresses I also hope to update photos of guitar number six - watch this space!
The students at Sackville were the first under my guidance to attempt guitar design and construction as part of their High School studies. These were undertaken as part of the GCSE Design Technology course, and as such were constructed by sixteen year olds.

The first guitars at MCC were produced as part of the College's Clubs and Societies program. As the group of students was small, this ensured that they received sound guidance and achieved excellent results.

At the same time, two staff members in the department designed and made their own instruments, with impressive and unique results.

In 2005 Guitar Building was introduced as a course option as part of Applied Technology in years 11 and 12. Eleven students studied the course, eight completing their instruments within the time allocated. Two students went on to receive Awards of Distinction from the Curriculum Council of Western Australia for their projects.
